UNITI results
UNITI project finished in September 2023. It’s overall aim was to deliver a predictive computational model based on existing and longitudinal data attempting to address the question which treatment approach is optimal for a specific patient based on specific parameters. Clinical, epidemiological, medical, genetic and audiological data, including signals reflecting ear-brain communication, were analysed from existing databases. Predictive factors for different patient groups were extracted and their prognostic relevance were tested in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) in which different groups of patients underwent a combination of therapies targeting the auditory and central nervous systems.

We very proudly announce that UNITI Scientific Coordinator, PD Dr Winfried Schlee, tinnitus researcher at Regensburg University, received this year's prestigious tinnitus research award by the German Foundation "Tinnitus and Hearing" of Charité Berlin!
Due to the current special circumstances, the award was presented in a virtual ceremony online, on December 3.
This recognition is connected to a monetary reward, in support of further innovative tinnitus research.
The entire UNITI consortium is immensely happy about Winny Schlee's achievement and excited about upcoming developments in our field!
Recently, our Italian network partners at Istituto Mario Negri in Milan published an article in their institute's magazine, on their various engagements in tinnitus research. Of course, their part in UNITI also plays a major role in this, and we are thankful for their countless contributions and input.
The report (in Italian) is available here: https://www.marionegri.it/magazine/acufen
Congratulations for your outstanding work, looking forward to our continuing collaboration!
Over 40 members of our UNITI project team, on December 3rd 2020, once more met virtually for our series of consortium meetings UNITI TV, already in its 4th edition!
Again this time, we immensely enjoyed and benefited from our fruitful exchange on all project updates, and were delighted to talk to each other!
This is especially important in this intense period of the project, where most members are busily preparing the start of the UNITI clinical trial, scheduled for early 2021.
Truly, everyone is already looking forward to UNITI TV no. 5!
A new publication of the swedish research team of Karolinska Institutet, led by Christopher Cederroth, highlight the importance of considering tinnitus severity and sex in the design of large genetic studies to optimize diagnostic approaches and ultimately improve therapeutic interventions.
The open acces article "Sex-Dependent Aggregation of Tinnitus in Swedish Families" has now been published in J. Clin. Med. 2020, 9(12), 3812; https://doi.org/10.3390/jcm9123812
